Brother Barkley sent over the latest fishing results and forecast for how the Tarpon fishing has been in his main guiding area for them in and around Tampa Bay and here is his report!
"Tarpon season is in full swing, and we have been blessed with great weather most days!
Recently I've received some questions on how long the season lasts, and the answer is through August with a caveat. After June, the Tarpons are done with their spawn and generally disperse from the beaches to the back bays along the coast. The great news about that is even though we see less fish on the beach they readily garbage a well-placed fly and will even extend their cravings to artificial lures or pretty much anything.
The only penalty for this is patience as the appearance of fish can be sporadic throughout the day. Slightly dirtier water at this time of year can make it easy to entice a bite and make long casts unnecessary. I have some dates in June available due to cancellations and July/August so if you are planning to be in the greater Tampa Bay area let's get out there and launch some silver!
***Next up: After Tarpon migrate out; dock light sight fishing for juvenile Tarpon along with Snook and Redfish becomes a focus in the hotter months into Fall when cooler temperatures have the fish strapping on the feed bag for the bitter Florida winter 😋 ***"
Now, if you would like to take a trip with Flats Nation Team member #3 as I like to call him since he is a Dear friend / Brother in Arms and fishing buddy for many, many years now! You just might want to brush up on both your Fly-Casting skills, and your breaststroke for you might fall off his awesome Hells Bay Marquesa from laughing so much! God knows, Barkley and I probably make too much noise from cutting up like a couple of kids (we both get a little festive at times) and why we don't always thump as many as we could when we do get to hit the water... 😁
You can take a trip and let Brother Barkley help you with all aspects of your Fly fishing skills while picking fights with Tarpon and a wide range of Flats Fishing targets by clicking Here:
