I had the pleasure of stopping in and visiting the new Seven Mile Fly Shop in Marathon, Florida. The shop opened back in early 2021, and this Fly Shop is simply beautiful and one of the best I have ever seen. It of the list due to how it is organized and the feel and vibe for Florida, The Keys, and the Flats Fishing community as a whole!
Here is a brief video on the shop to help you get a feel for it and the mission of the Seven Mile Fly Shop:
As soon as we walked through the door (unannounced), we were warmly greeted by Danielle and Jillian, the Store Manager! Unlike some Tackle Shops, this one is simply beautiful inside. By the way, I think we just found the new flooring for our main Office / Home (now damaged by the Hurricane) by copying the type of flooring that lines the entire shop.
In addition, you could get plenty of artwork ideas for your home or office just by using the pallet they utilized on the construction and design of the Seven Mile Fly Shop. To all of our Male readers, you may want to bring your wife, girlfriend, or significant other when you visit. It will provide plenty of decorating ideas to help you round out the total Flats Fishing Lifestyle we enjoy and promote here on Flats Nation! If he or she does not like the shop's vibe, maybe you need to find another main squeeze! Consider it a litmus test on how your future relationship will fair when you (also) bring home that awesome Tarpon picture to hang in your living room or home office... 😊
See, and here you thought it was just another Fly Shop, and pending which new Fly Reel you pick up, it is probably much cheaper than Marriage Counseling years down the road!
Speaking of Art, Jorge Martinez creates some fantastic work. I hear he's coming to the shop and can help you with some decorations for your personal space soon. You should stop in on 12-3-22 at the Shop and see how he can help you with the above Relationship Test!
Looking alone, just like any relationship, is not everything IF there is no substance! And that you will find plenty of them at Seven Mile Fly Shop, for they have a simply superb selection of everything from Tackle to Apparel to one of the largest selections (take it from a confessed Fly Shop Junkie) of Fly Tying supplies I have ever seen. Here is a shot of just some of the supplies they have on hand...
Speaking of such, and as I have discussed on some of our Podcasts, many of the Flies now being created are simply "Works of Art," and only the smell of them (which can be corrected with the application of a little scent) to the fish would separate them from the real thing. Here is one such example and how to tie it yourself courtesy of Joe from the shop—one of my favorites!
That reminds me: They host a Fly-Tying session on certain Thursday evenings starting at 7 p.m., so call the shop at 305-440-3406 to find out about the next session and get on the list to join them!
I have also mentioned in several of our Podcasts found Here and as discussed with Jillian while getting the Grand Tour of Seven Mile Fly Shop. They have high-quality gear aimed not only for the Guide or serious Flats Fishing junkie but also for the newer or younger angler that is not near as expensive and, if taken care of, will give one an excellent start on the Sport without breaking the bank!
Spending thousands of dollars is not within the budget for some parents or grandparents of children asking for a Fly Reel and Rod Combo. Seven Mile Fly Shop has you covered and can give anyone an excellent start for much less like the Redington Behemoth Reel
You can find out more about that reel by clicking Here.
Also, along those same lines, if you do not want to go with a lone source for, say, a Combo Kit. Our friends over at T-Fly can help you and let them work with you and your budget and needs (best use case) to either help you land one of the quality present combos they have, or match up a system best suited to your experience level and budget.
There is simply no need to tie up many thousands of dollars to get started Fly Fishing on the Flats or any body of water, for that matter. We have felt that preconceived idea has kept some away from even trying the sport, and we here at Flats Nation are trying to help dispel that myth.
It has one of the coolest Rod Racks I have ever seen and gave me some office upgrade ideas just by looking it all over!
While visiting, you can even work with your new gear in their cool casting pond and see what tweaks it or your casting style may need for distance or accuracy.
